About this objectA hand engraved glass cylinder for liquids with tapered measuring cylinder incorporated into the stand, topped with a bowl and pouring lip edge.
The measurements in CC's and Ounces are engraved by hand along the length of the stand and follow onto the bowl.
The base is half frosted, half clear glass. The clear side has the manufacturer's details engraved into it reading 'Mayer & Phelps London'.
Dr Nancarrow purchased the Alberton Medical Clinic, South Australia, in May 1949. The practice had started with Dr A V Benson in 1890, followed by Dr Coverton, Dr St John-Poole, and Dr Bertram Jolly in 1944. When Dr Nancarrow retired and closed the practice in 2012, the Heritage Office took their century of medical artefacts into the collection.
Mayer & Phelps and Downs Bros, both renowned surgical instrument makers, became Downs Surgical Limited.
