History Festival 2023 @ CALHN Health Museum

The CALHN Health Museum is holding a packed program of things to do at History Festival this year.

TOURS

We are running two tours this year:

Tour of Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre

It’s back! We are running our popular tour from last year again, if you missed it then book your places now to avoid missing out.

Explore Hampstead Rehab Centre abandoned buildings, usually off-limits to the public.  See what life was like in an infectious diseases hospital as you explore the mortuary, kitchen and gatehouse including some more modern buildings on the current site.  The tour concludes at the CALHN Health Museum.

Tour of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a busy hospital? Then this tour is for you. Explore The Queen Elizabeth Hospital including the old maternity building and etched stairwell glass, returned nurses memorial stained glass window, old clinical photography rooms and explore a 1960s ward with kitchen, treatment room, shower, bathroom and sluices. The tour concludes at the CALHN Health Museum display rooms.

Check out the History Festival website for more details on both the Hampstead and TQEH tours. Book your place quick as places are limited.

EXHIBITIONS

At Hampstead we have an exhibition on Both Inventions. View medical apparatus invented by the Both brothers in Adelaide. Including electrocardiographs, an iron lung and an electro-encephalograph

Also at Hampstead is our collaboration with the THRF Group – Creative Health: The Happy Snaps and the Hospital Plans. Find out more about it here.
